Hey ā€” it's Rames

I spent most of the last two weeks alone, and it was a blast. I hadn't been really alone for a while, so I approached this experience with curiosity. When you're living with your partner, it's easy to forget how different life is when you're on your own.

I had total freedom, meaning no need to sync with anyone, but I realized I still needed some structure. What I loved most was the deep focus it allowed, not on my work, but on the woodworking projects I was doing. I could spend three hours straight working on a project without noticing the time, which hadn't happened to me in a long time.

Overall, I'm grateful to live with my partner, as it makes life more fun. But taking a bit of time truly alone each year is something I'll strive for more.

3 Tips

1/ NOTION CHAAAAAAARTS

Notion Charts has finally arrived in everyoneā€™s workspaces. And man, it was worth the wait.

They havenā€™t just rolled out a half-baked feature, no. Notion Charts is just gorgeous and brilliant.

How to add charts

  • Add a new view to an existing database that has at least one ā€œnumberā€-type property OR

  • Type /chart as you would do for any other type of block

How to use charts

  1. Select your chart type (between vertical bar, horizontal bar, line & donut)

  2. Define your X & Y axes

  3. Style your chart (colors, height, axis names, etc.)

  4. Optional: add sorting and filtering

  5. Add charts everywhere šŸ˜…

2/ Next, Notion Forms?

In their release note, Notion announced another long-awaited feature. And thatā€™s nothing else but Forms.

Like the existing alternatives like NoteForms or Tally, youā€™ll be able to craft and share your form with all answers automatically updating your Notion database. And my guess is that youā€™ll also be able to make your form twice as fast because options will also be auto-populated from your existing database (which other form builders donā€™t currently do).

3/ Notion in Chinese

Chinese friends, Notion is now fully accessible in your native language! With its huge population, Notion has just expanded its market immensely.

Tip: to change your Notion's language, go to Settings & Members ā†’ Language & Region ā†’ Language

2 Resources

1/ How to Use Linked Databases

At their core, linked databases are a way to connect different databases within Notion. This means that you can create a database in one page or workspace, and then link to it from another page or workspace. This can be incredibly useful if you're trying to organize a large amount of information across different areas of your life or work.

If you want to learn everything about linked databases and self-referential filtering, I wrote a detailed post that you can find on my blog.

2/ Donā€™t Track Data Just Because You Can
